Trained as a quantity surveyor with comprehensive domestic/overseas experience gained in Contractors’ Organisations and Private Practice, both at pre/post contract levels. Throughout the last 30 years, has specialised in the avoidance, preparation and reconciliation of contractual disputes.

Relevant experience

  • Extensive experience of the Building, Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Industries which has mainly comprised administrative, commercial and contractual matters based upon numerous forms of contract from inception to project completion. This has included preparing tender submissions, drafting contracts and associated documents, negotiating contract conditions, development and establishment of standard contractual procedures, preparing final accounts and advising generally. In addition, has wide experience in the identification of contract problems and the preparation and negotiation of claims on major projects. Further, has considerable experience of matters in arbitration and litigation having assisted/acted as Expert Witness on several major disputes.
  • Familiar with the rights and obligations of the Construction Act 1996 having been involved in approximately 250 adjudications under standard form contracts and the Scheme for Construction Contracts.
  • RICS and other panels’ adjudicator (> 200 nominations).
  • Computer literate being adept in all relevant Microsoft applications, internal networks, the Internet and E-mail.

INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT

The service provided to Clients has been varied and extensive comprising a wide range of surveying and management duties. Principally, these have included:

  • Acting for parties and as adjudicator in construction disputes
  • Presentation, negotiation and settlement of final accounts comprising multi-storey buildings, housing and office developments, shopping centres, roads, sewage treatment works, MOD facilities and chemical/process engineering plants
  • Relationship building and liaison with clients, developers, funders, senior management of main and subcontractors, and the legal profession
  • Advising, managing and providing colleagues with contract advice; and systems for measuring and recording relevant data in connection with disputes and their avoidance
  • Preparation and evaluation of contractors’ claims for loss and expense covering all branches of the Construction Industry
  • Drafting pleadings and Expert Reports in respect of quantum and delay.

Mainly post-contract professional quantity surveying duties on 3 large, commercial projects including a MOD testing and assembly plant, Silicon Chip production facility and 120,000 SF office accommodation. In addition, involvement in project management functions including Client liaison, performance review of Design Team and construction process, and integration of mechanical, electrical and builder’s work packages.
